During a diplomatic meeting in Washington, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented former U.S. President Donald Trump with a golden pager, according to sources familiar with the event. The symbolic gift referenced a significant Israeli military operation that took place in Lebanon last September.
The operation, which targeted communication devices used by members of Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group, resulted in a series of explosions on September 17. The initial strikes focused on pagers linked to Hezbollah operatives, followed by an attack on walkie-talkies the next day. Reports from Lebanese health officials confirmed that at least 37 individuals lost their lives, including some children, while nearly 3,000 others sustained injuries—many of them civilians caught in the crossfire.
Netanyahu’s choice of a golden pager as a diplomatic token seemed to underscore Israel’s stance on security threats posed by Hezbollah. The gesture also served as a subtle nod to the evolving nature of warfare, where even seemingly outdated technology can play a critical role in military strategy.
In response, Trump reciprocated with a personal touch. He gifted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Netanyahu a signed photograph of the two leaders together, accompanied by a handwritten note that read, “To Bibi, A great leader!” The image, shared on social media by Netanyahu’s son, Yair, captured a moment of camaraderie between the two figures.
The meeting in Washington reinforced the close relationship between the U.S. and Israel, reflecting their ongoing cooperation on defense and regional security matters. While the golden pager may have been a symbolic token, it underscored the deeper strategic discussions that took place behind closed doors.
