Two Survivors Rescued 10 Days After Nepal Floods

Rescue workers in Nepal have discovered two more survivors nearly 10 days after powerful floods and landslides swept through communities close to the country’s northern border.

The latest rescues have raised hopes that additional people could still be alive beneath collapsed structures or inside damaged facilities. The Nepal flash floods have caused widespread destruction, with more than 1,300 people reported dead and thousands still missing.

One survivor, a Chinese national, was located inside a tunnel associated with a hydropower project. Rescue crews worked through heavy debris before reaching him and bringing him to safety. He was later transported to Kathmandu for medical care.

A woman was also rescued from a damaged four-story building in Betrawati. She was evacuated by helicopter and taken for treatment.

Search Efforts Continue in Dangerous Areas

Rescuers have faced major obstacles throughout the operation. Thick layers of mud, rocks and debris have covered roads and structures, while some hydropower facilities were severely damaged by the rushing water.

Underground workers have been particularly difficult to locate. Floodwater and debris entered tunnels at several facilities, trapping employees inside.

Before the latest discoveries, two Nepali workers had also been found alive at another hydropower site after spending nine days underground. Their rescue encouraged teams to continue searching for others who may have survived.

The ongoing Nepal flash floods rescue operation involves Nepal’s security forces along with specialized teams. Heavy machinery and excavation equipment are being used to remove debris, while information about tunnel layouts is helping rescuers determine where trapped workers could be located.

Officials believe hundreds of hydropower workers remain unaccounted for, although their exact conditions are unknown.

Extensive Damage Across the Region

The Nepal flash floods followed a major event in the Himalayan region on August 26 involving ice, rock and mud. The resulting surge traveled rapidly through river valleys, overwhelming communities and damaging critical infrastructure.

Homes, bridges, roads and hydropower facilities were among the structures affected. In some locations, entire sections of riverside settlements were buried or swept away.

The disaster has also made it difficult for authorities to locate missing people and identify those who died. Thousands of families continue to wait for information about relatives who disappeared during the floods.

The discovery of multiple survivors after several days has provided renewed optimism for those still waiting.

Survivors Offer a Reason to Keep Searching

The latest rescues show that people trapped beneath debris or inside damaged structures can survive for much longer than initially expected. For families affected by the Nepal flash floods, the discoveries provide a powerful reason not to give up hope.

Search teams are expected to continue examining locations where survivors could still be trapped. Conditions remain difficult, but rescuers are using heavy equipment, helicopters and specialized techniques to reach inaccessible areas.

As Nepal continues dealing with the aftermath of one of its most destructive recent disasters, the successful rescues have become a reminder that even amid enormous devastation, survival stories can emerge.

The continuing Nepal flash floods response will focus on finding those still missing, assisting survivors and recovering victims as authorities work to assess the full impact of the catastrophe.
