Former Vice President Kamala Harris has sparked new speculation about her political future after suggesting she may make another run for the presidency. In an interview with the BBC, Harris expressed her ongoing commitment to public service and her belief that the United States will one day see a woman in the Oval Office — possibly herself.
Harris Keeps the Door Open for 2028
During her conversation with BBC journalist Laura Kuenssberg, Harris offered her most direct hint yet that she may seek the presidency again in 2028, following her defeat to President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
“I am not done,” Harris said firmly. “I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones.”
When asked whether she could still see herself becoming president one day, Harris replied, “Possibly,” noting that her grandnieces would “in their lifetime, for sure” witness a woman become president. Although she stopped short of confirming her candidacy, her remarks reflected an unshaken resolve to remain active in the political arena.
Despite polls showing her trailing behind other Democratic figures, Harris dismissed their importance. “If I listened to polls, I would never have run for my first or second office — and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she said, emphasizing that perseverance, not polling numbers, defines her political journey.
A Critique of Trump’s Leadership
In the same interview, Harris renewed her criticism of Donald Trump, arguing that her earlier warnings about his leadership style have come true. She accused Trump of “weaponizing the Department of Justice”, claiming he has used federal power to pursue political opponents and critics.
“You look at what has happened — how he has weaponized federal agencies to go after political satirists,” she said, referencing the suspension of TV host Jimmy Kimmel after jokes about conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Harris pointed to Trump’s public celebration of that suspension as evidence of his intolerance for criticism.
According to Harris, Trump’s actions reflect the behavior of a leader unable to handle dissent. “His skin is so thin he couldn’t endure criticism from a joke and attempted to shut down an entire media organization in the process,” she said.
Standing Firm Amid Political Pressure
Harris also took aim at corporate America and major institutions that she believes have been too eager to appease Trump. She accused many business leaders of putting personal or financial interests ahead of democratic principles.
“There are many who have capitulated since day one,” she said. “They’re bending the knee at the foot of a tyrant — because they want to be close to power, get a merger approved, or avoid an investigation.”
While she didn’t announce any immediate campaign plans, Harris made it clear that she still sees herself as a force in American politics. Her tone throughout the interview was one of resilience and defiance, suggesting that her political ambitions are far from over.
For now, Harris remains focused on shaping the national conversation and standing firm in her critique of Trump’s governance. But her message was unmistakable — President Kamala Harris isn’t stepping away from the fight just yet.
