A woman is arrested for underage drinking.
Svetlana Dali, the woman previously charged with stowing away on a Delta flight from New York to Paris, has been apprehended once more—this time while attempting to cross into Canada. According to multiple law enforcement sources, Dali was found on a Greyhound bus bound for Canada after reportedly cutting off her ankle monitor.
Law enforcement officials revealed that Dali was detained on Monday and is now in FBI custody. She is expected to be handed over to U.S. Marshals in Buffalo, New York, where she will face a judge before being returned to Brooklyn. She is likely to be charged with bail jumping, a federal offense that could result in a prison sentence of up to five years.
Previous Incident on Delta Flight
Dali’s notoriety began in November when she boarded Delta Flight 264 from JFK Airport in New York to Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport without a ticket or boarding pass. Court documents detail how she managed to bypass Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening by entering a lane reserved for airline employees. Once at the gate, she slipped past busy Delta agents preoccupied with assisting ticketed passengers.
Once on board, Dali attempted to remain unnoticed by moving between the plane’s lavatories to avoid detection. Passengers later recounted overhearing flight attendants and pilots discussing her unusual behavior. Her presence was only revealed to passengers after the plane landed in Paris. French police boarded the aircraft and detained her, determining that she did not meet entry requirements for France and ordering her return to the U.S.
Legal Troubles and Current Charges
Upon her return to the U.S., Dali faced a charge of being a stowaway on an aircraft without permission, a violation of federal law. Despite prosecutors’ arguments that she posed a flight risk due to the nature of her actions, Judge Joseph Marutollo granted her release under strict conditions. These included GPS monitoring via an ankle bracelet, travel restrictions, and curfews, as well as an order to stay with a court-approved acquaintance in Philadelphia.
However, her stay in Philadelphia was short-lived. Her roommate reported her missing after discovering her ankle monitor on the floor. It was shortly thereafter that she was discovered on the Greyhound bus headed for Canada. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are now handling her case.
Who Is Svetlana Dali?
Svetlana Dali is a U.S. permanent resident and a Russian national. Although she had applied for asylum in France a few years ago, authorities have provided little information about her background or how long she had been in the United States. Her recent legal record also reveals two lawsuits she filed in which she alleged being the victim of a “military-grade chemical attack” and a kidnapping conspiracy, though the claims remain unverified.
What’s Next for Dali?
With her re-arrest, Dali’s legal troubles have intensified. She faces new charges of bail jumping, which could result in significant prison time if convicted. Her case has raised questions about how she managed to evade airport security and federal supervision, highlighting potential gaps in security protocols. Legal experts suggest her next court appearance will be pivotal in determining the severity of her punishment.
As this unusual case unfolds, many are watching closely to see how U.S. authorities handle her repeated attempts to cross borders without proper documentation. The charges of stowing away on an aircraft and violating bail conditions are serious, and Dali now faces a legal battle with potentially severe consequences.
