Apple has been grappling with overheating problems in its iPhones for some time now. And, in a new warning, the company is urging users to avoid close contact with their iPhones, particularly when charging them, as it could end up being a fire risk.
This precautionary measure stems from a valid concern: an overheating phone can ignite nearby materials, such as bed sheets. Additionally, Apple cautions against using third-party chargers, as they may not comply with necessary safety standards, heightening the fire risk.
In order to stay safe, Apple advises using “Made for iPhone” cables that meet the required specifications. If you purchase a non-Apple charging cord from retailers like Amazon or 7-11, you assume responsibility for any potential issues that they could cause.
In its official warning to its customers, Apple points out: “Don’t sleep [or sit] on a device, power adapter, or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket, pillow, or your body, when it’s connected to a power source. Keep your iPhone, the power adapter, and any wireless charger in a well-ventilated area when in use or charging.
Take special care if you have a physical condition that affects your ability to detect heat against the body. Use common sense to avoid situations where your skin is in contact with a device, its power adapter, or a wireless charger when it’s operating or connected to a power source for long periods of time.
