Electric car charging stations added to BP petrol stations in the UK

There have been considerable changes to petrol and diesel companies in the last five to ten years. This has only increased in more recent times as some of the UK’s biggest oil giants try to catch up with modern times and modern vehicles. The well known BP petrol station franchise has now officially added car charging ports into all of their UK stations this year.

Their chargemaster has said that this was nothing short of a £130m venture and that it had surpassed a huge milestone for low carbon motoring. As issued by the BP company themselves, the UK now has fully functional electric vehicle charging company ports, also known as Chargemaster, in place across the country. BP have invested a staggering £130m in this scheme as a part of a wider plan to increase electric vehicles around the country and issuing EVs at the forecourts.

The famous Chargemaster was founded back in 2008. It operates one of the United Kingdom’s largest ever network of EV charging stations. Chargemaster have a collective 6,500 stations in total. They are also in control of the manufacturing, design, building, maintaining and eventually selling the product in the units we commonly know.

By completing this contract and laying the groundwork, the BP company are intending to cater to electric vehicle drivers now in and across the United Kingdom. The BP’s usual oil firm, that are in charge of creating convenient yet innovative electric vehicle charging networks and technologies, said that “is a key part of BP’s strategy to advance the energy transition”. The company have released a statement claiming to be able to launch all of the EV charging points by the end of the next year.

Tufan Erginbilgic is the acting chief executive of the BP Downstream. He manages the oil giants and has freely spoken to the press about the installation of the EV Chargemaster, he says “At BP we believe that fast and convenient charging is critical to support the successful adoption of electric vehicles. Combining BP’s and Chargemaster’s complementary expertise, experience and assets is an important step towards offering fast and ultra-fast charging at BP sites across the UK and to BP becoming the leading provider of energy to low carbon vehicles, on the road or at home.”

Following this, the acting chief executive of the Chargemaster company has issued a statement saying that it “marks a true milestone in the move towards low carbon motoring in the UK”. The BP company has big plans to only keep growing and expanding their clientele in the future too.
